Grape Expectations


While looking through the Bordeaux section the other day, I couldn't help but notice some amazing wines (like the Leoville Poyferre, St Julien 2003) that look sadly forgotten in the midst of the hype over the 2005 Bordeaux vintage. This prompted me to do a little research over the weekend as to the real importance and purpose of vintage charts. I found this article in the NY Times archives:

It's important to remember that there are always exceptions to the "rules", especially in the world of wine. And thank god there are brilliant winemakers out there who can take an OK crop and still craft a beautiful, delicious wine!
